Thanks to my awesome boss, we received a trip to Carlsbad, CA (north of San Diego) to stay at the beautiful La Costa Resort and Spa. This season has not been the most fun for us so it was great to get away. Since the kids would be missing a week of school, we had Courtney & Tyler write a "blog" of their trip for their teachers. Cody was overwhelmed by all of the work he would be missing and spent several hours each morning trying to stay caught up. You can view Courtney's blog by clicking HERE. You can view Tyler's blog by clicking HERE. You can also see all of our slide shows by clicking HERE. All of the kids loved the ocean except Toby. He preferred to stay up on the beach or at the pool with Mom. Tayten, who is usually Mr. Clean did not mind getting sand all over him. He was a total beach bum and loved to take turns running in the waves and playing in the sand. The most fun he had was trying to knock over Courtney's sand castles. Cody learned to body surf and spent hours riding the waves. Courtney took turns between jumping through the waves and building sand castles. Tyler used his charm to borrow other kids' boogie boards and became quite the expert. Every day we were there he had two three girls following him around asking him if he wanted to ride their boards or help them build sand castles.
We were able to spend two different days at Seaworld. The first day was a blast as we had Breakfast with Elmo and friends. The babies loved it as did the twins (inside joke.) Cody even seemed to have a good time with the characters (or maybe it was the buffett), although he was disappointed Grover wasn't there.
The twins really enjoyed the Budwieser Clydsdales and told everyone they say, "mooooo". I guess we learned we need to work more on the animal sounds. They also loved the sealions and had it somewhat close that they say, "arrf, arrrf." We were surprised that they made it until 3 pm the first day. We also learned that Stingrays do not like Cody and let him know it by splashing him as he walked by. We were all whooped, but we had to stop at California Pizza Kitchen---YUMMMM!!!!
Our 2nd day at Seaworld we went later in the afternoon so we could catch the fireworks show. The twins loved the Penguins and actually had the sounds close.."caca, caca." By far their favorite thing was the Clyde and Seymore show. They were rivited by the performance, clapping, and laughing. Toby even decided that he'd rather watch the show with the cute teenage girl in front of us and sat with her, pointing out all the funny parts. (I'm not sure where he gets that from, but we'll pretend it's from his mom!) The night concluded with the largest, most over topped funnel cake we've ever seen and some amazing fireworks over the water.
The last day there Cody, Courtney, Tayten, and I went back to the beach, while Toby and Brandi stayed at the pool. Every time we asked Toby if he wanted to go to the ocean, his answer was a very emphatic, "NO!" Courtney was finally able to finish a sandcastle as I built decoy sandcastles for Tayten to destroy and dug a Tayten moat around her creation. None of the kids wanted to leave and we all decided that we would love to become beach bums if we could.
What an amazing trip we had. We spent some time every day at the pool where the kids enjoyed the waterslides and the walk-in pool with its own beach. The resort was so peaceful and relaxing it was hard to leave.
