How do we deal with the pain?

We all know we will have trials and we know Why Bad Things Happen.  So how do we handle these trials?  Here are a few practical ways to cope with the pain:

#1 Understand God and yourself

Don’t run from God, run TO God.  As humans we tend to blame somebody, but avoid the urge to blame God.  He’s on our side.

 #2 Remove wrong expectations

Remember, God did not “allow” this to happen and we may not know “why” this is happening right now.  God doesn’t cause suffering and He can’t always prevent it.

#3 Realize that suffering is not always a result of your own personal sin

This is a fallen world where Satan is in charge.  This is a battle and we are on Satan’s turf.  Bad stuff happens to everyone in a war zone.

#4 Think clearly about death

If you are right with God, death is not something we should fear.   Death should hold no power over us because we will spend eternity with God.

(NOTE:  One of the most important decisions you can make is choosing to accept or reject Jesus.  If you have not done this (or are not sure), please click here to learn more.)

#5 Look at Jesus to see suffering and difficulties clearly

Both God and Jesus had the power to stop His suffering, yet neither One did.  Why?  Because it was necessary that Jesus play by the rules to truly win.   We chose to let Satan run the earth, so now we have to suffer the consequences.

 #6 Do something

If a person does nothing but sit around and think about their pain, the pain becomes much more oppressive.  Do something!!

#7 Try to focus on others—it actually helps you and them

#8 Lean on people who can support you

….especially if they’ve been through it themselves.

“...the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to in turn comfort those who are also having trouble…” (2 Corinthians 1:3,4)

#9 Avoid big, life changing decisions in the middle of suffering

It’s usually best to give yourself time to heal and adjust to what’s happened before making big, life changing decisions.

#10 Don’t ever forget the nature of God

God is our loving heavenly Father, always working His hardest for the best of His kids.  He’s always available and working to help us.

Remember, God did not CHOOSE to have any of this happen and he does not CHOOSE who is hurt or suffers.  He loves all His children equally, otherwise He would protect those that are serving Him the most, which we know isn’t true.  Obviously, somebody else (Satan) is doing the choosing.

Satan is a lion that God has constantly fought to keep away that has now escaped.

“Be on your guard, for your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking SOMEONE to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)

When bad things happen, we should focus all of our rage on the perpetrator-SATAN.
