FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cody Hybiak Wins For 2nd Time in 3 Races

June 6, 2008, Tucson, Arizona

After struggling for most of the season, Cody Hybiak brought home another victory on Friday night to cap the first half of the Tucson Kart Club season.

The goal of the night was to run all of the laps, which he did, finishing 2nd behind Nick Parker in both heat races.  Parker and Hybiak never had more than 1 foot between their karts the entire 2nd heat race.

"As close as they were, we wanted to make small adjustments and see what the Parkers would do to Nick," Cody's crew chief and father, Jeff Hybiak said afterwards.

The team made some conservative adjustments for the feature event and on lap 1 it was apparent that Parker's adjustments were more aggressive.  Cody shot past Parker from the outside pole and led the first lap, with Chris Perry in tow.  As Parker and Carlos Martinez struggled to get past Perry, Cody opened up a 10 kart length lead.

At about half way, Cody's set-up started going away and the tires began squealing.  Martinez and Parker, now clear of Perry closed the gap quickly.  With 4 laps to go, Martinez made a move to get past Hybiak, but Hybiak was able to drive deeper into the corner to keep the lead.   Perry got tangled with Tommy Wunderlich, bringing out a caution with 3 laps to go.

The caution was just what the MRG/PaulaBoyer.com Icon needed as it allowed the tires to cool down.   Hybiak got the jump on the restart and pulled away from Martinez and Parker.   Martinez was able to close in the final corner, but again Hybiak had enough pull to take the checkered flag.  Martinez was 2nd and Parker was 3rd.

Jeff Hybiak again had a tough starting position even though he finished 2nd in both of his heat races.   With the high kart count, the heats were split in flights and Hybiak was awarded the 4th starting position.  After Cody's win, he switched to his crew chief role and had his dad and teammate Mark Gorton change tires for their feature event.

Hybiak struggled on the start, falling to as far as 6th place before he began working through traffic.   Hybiak, Kevin Rowlan, and Dennis Smith put on quite a show as they battled for the 3rd place position.  There were several passes for that position, before Hybiak took it over for good, the Thomas Parker moved into the 4th place position.

Having spent so much time in traffic, Hybiak ran out of laps before he could catch Richie Jones and Thomas Parker.  He cut the lead in half when the checkered flag came out.

The team is back in action in two weeks for the 2nd race in the Arizona State Championship Series.
