FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hybiak wins 2nd Straight Tucson Shootout

November 24, 2007, Tucson, Arizona

Cody Hybiak successfully defended his 2006 Tucson Shootout title by dominating the 3rd Annual Tucson Shootout at Tucson Kart Club on Saturday.

The 2006 event was his first career feature win.  This win marked his 14th career victory, and his 7th in the last 9 races at the Tucson track.  With a large number of entries, the Jr 1-4 division was split into two flights of heat races, separating the two favorites--Hybiak and Carlos Martinez III.  Hybiak and Martinez have been first and second in points the last two seasons and also finished that way during the 2006 event.  Hybiak in his MRG Racing Phantom Icon won both of his heat races as did Martinez in his Jill's Little Store Phantom Phenom.  By virtue of the lower pill draw, Martinez would start on the pole with Hybiak on his outside.

Hybiak took the lead on the initial start, but a pile-up behind them would lead to another attempt at a start.  On the 2nd start, Hybiak again would take the lead, but again the karts behind them wrecked, bringing out the red flag to clear the track of debris.  On the 3rd start, Martinez got the jump on Hybiak, but Hybiak passed him back in turn 2.  Hybiak and Martinez began to pull away from the field as they had done all year and began lapping karts on lap 5.   After putting several karts down a lap another crash brought out the red flag again.

With just 4 laps to go when they got rolling again, Hybiak again got the jump on Martinez and would pull away to take the checkered flag.  Martinez took home a commanding 2nd place performance.  This was the final race for both drivers in the Jr 1 division.  Hybiak won the rookie of the year award in 2005 and the track championship in 2006.  The two will carry on their two year battle next year in the Jr 2 division as both drivers move up to the faster class for drivers ages 12-16.

Hybiak Motorsports driver Jeff Hybiak returned to the Stock Medium division after a one year layoff while competing in the Animal Heavy division at AKA Speedway in Phoenix.  He started off strong and won his first heat race and finished 3rd in the 2nd heat race.  In the feature race, Hybiak fought a tight kart all day long and then endured a heavily damaged nose piece after a lap 7 crash.  The top 3 karts broke away and were feet from each other the final 5 laps.   Hybiak was able to hang on to finish on the podium in third for the 2nd time in three years of this race.  He missed the 2006 race with a broken brake line.

The highlight of the day came when Hybiak Motorsports teammate Mark Gorton won the Animal Heavy division to claim his first career feature win.  Gorton held off a ferocious 20 lap challenge from Dennis Smith, and 2006 AKA and TKC Champion Rick Spencer Jr.

The team may compete in the Holiday Classic in Phoenix at the end of the year depending on sponsorship arrangements.   Otherwise they will be back in action next February.
