Hybiak Wins Jr 1-4 Race in Tucson (& it's not Cody!)Tyler beats big brother in Jr 1-4 debut!October
12, 2007 Hybiak Motorsports Rookie driver Tyler Hybiak shocked the fans in Tucson on Friday by winning the Jr 1-4 main event to close out the regular season in Tucson. Already the Rookie Champion, Tyler moved up for the season finale along with his fellow rookie drivers. His older brother, Cody only needed to take one green flag lap to claim the Jr 1-4 season title, so he chose to start last in the two heat races. In the first heat, Tyler started on the outside pole and ran second the entire race. Cody worked his way from the back to Tyler's bumper by lap 5 and spent the rest of the race trying to pass his younger brother. He could pull along side him, but not complete the pass. The two finished second and third. In the second heat, Tyler started in the back, one row in front of Cody. Cody quickly passed Tyler and then the two began working their way through traffic. With older brother leading the way, they soon had the first and second slots and that is how they finished. The victory for Cody gave him the pole position. Tyler earned the outside pole. To start the feature, Cody again led from the point and Tyler fell back to third. The second place kart drove Cody to the wall on lap 2, bringing out the caution. The aggressive kart was penalized and put in the back of the pack, while Cody was awarded the lead once again. On the restart, Cody and Tyler again led the field with Cody stretching his lead out to nearly a straight away. With 4 laps to go, Cody got tangled with a lapped kart and spun out, again bringing out the caution. This time, Cody would have to go to the back, tenth place. Tyler then inherited the lead. On the restart, Tyler and Carlos Martinez pulled away bumper to bumper. As they took the white flag, they encountered the same lapped kart that took Cody out. Tyler went to the outside (like Cody did earlier), while Martinez dove to the inside. The three karts entered turn 1 three wide, but Tyler drove it in deeper. Martinez was very courteous and did not make contact with Tyler. Tyler came around to take the checkered flag, earning his 5th career victory. Cody was able to
come from tenth to fourth. The third place kart failed post-race technical
inspection, moving Cody to the third position.
