FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HMS Earns 25th Victory!

September 9, 2007, Phoenix, Arizona

In a night of ups and downs, Jeff Hybiak ended the night on an up note, winning the final feature event and claiming Hybiak Motorsports’ 25th victory in their short history.

It was the kind of night that made the HMS team wish they had just stayed home.  With temperatures in the 100’s as the night began the team faced many challenges.  In his first heat, Jr 1-4 driver Cody Hybiak’s motor failed, forcing the team to make a quick change in between heats.  The back-up motor was better for heat two, but he struggled to find any speed and ended up qualifying last for the feature.

Rookie driver Tyler Hybiak did not fare much better.  After running most of the first heat in second place, a late race battle left him out of the groove and nearly into the wall as he fell back to fourth place.  In the second heat, he again was mixing it up with the leaders, when he was spun going for second place.   Sitting in the middle of the track, one car narrowly missed him, while the other clipped his right rear tire.  The impact ended up shearing off the studs on his hub.  Luckily, the team had a back-up in the trailer and had it and the tire replaced before the main event.

Animal driver Jeff Hybiak also struggled in the first heat, nearly being taken into the wall twice while trying to work through traffic.  After moving into second place, he was bumped out of the groove and fell back to fourth.  A late race pass, moved him into third place.  He went on to win the second heat race, qualifying him second for the main event.

Despite some changes, Cody struggled to get any speed in his feature event, only gaining two spots to finish seventh.

Tyler’s race was exciting as he was in the midst of a four car battle for second place.  He tried to make a pass on the outside in the corner four different times, each time sliding out of the groove and falling back to fifth position.  On the last lap, he again attempted the move on the outside, but this time made it stick.   He crossed the line fourth, but one of the karts ahead of him failed post race inspection, so he wound up third.

For the night cap, Crew Chief Cody made some adjustments to allow Jeff to turn his kart better.  It took a few laps for Jeff to get a handle on the kart, but he gradually began to close on the pole sitter, Dicky Dudd.  Around lap 8, Jeff got underneath Dudd, who nearly passed him back in the next corner.  Dudd hung on Jeff’s bumper for a few more laps before Jeff began to pull away.

He crossed the finish line well ahead of second place to claim his 12th career victory and extend his points lead over second place Dudd.

“Once again, Cody’s adjustment was the reason I was able to win,” an exhausted driver said afterwards.  “The kart felt like it wasn’t even touching the track.  It was a lot to hang onto, but it was obviously fast.”

The Hybiak brothers will be back in action in Tucson on Friday night before going back to Phoenix the following week.
